snow white and the seven dwarfs

It’s December in Powell River, which means that Theatre Now! is well into rehearsals for the production of this year’s Christmas Panto.
For folks unfamiliar with the term Panto, it is short for Pantomime, which refers to the English tradition of a formulized play once referred to as low opera. The English pantomime is full of song and dance, audience participation and all kinds of humorous antics, as well as “any thing for a laugh” dialogue. For this year’s offering of Snow White expect the traditional lineup of Panto characters with a few twists in the plot, of course. For example, our dame Dolly Dumpling, played by Dez Hussey, will bring her charms to the stage as “she”, her son Danny, (Lockman Wong) and Prince Frederick (Maenyn Forsythe) along with the seven dwarfs help save Snow White (Stephanie Pearse) from the evil Queen Caligula (Nicole Narbonne) along with the queen’s servant Black Wing (Tricia Andrews) and the semi-evil comic cohorts Bogwart and Stinkwart (Michael Munday and Tina Thompson). It’s a fun filled evening of riotous theatre comedy, with actors from 7 years old to … well, the Queen says “There’s no need to go into that just now!” Director Brian Liddle is excited to also introduce this year’s musical ensemble The Mellow Gnomes, lead by musical director, Al Dicken. |

Here is your guide to audience participation when you come to our Christmas Pantomime:
1. Be enthusiastic! React to whatever happens. It gives us confidence! 2. Cheer for Robin Hood & boo the evil Sheriff. Really, it's ok. They want you to. 3. Laugh at all our jokes! We’ve worked hard on our comedic timing. 4. Clap after all the songs. It takes a lot of courage to sing on stage! 5. Turn off your cell phone, and boo anyone who doesn’t! 6. Have a wonderful time at the show, and tell your friends to come to the next one! |
